I've owned several (aviation) GPS receivers and, as a pilot, I'm very familiar with Garmin. They're certainly not the cheapest but they are the absolute benchmark in GPS navigation.

I decided I wanted a GPS for my vehicle about three weeks ago when I got the chance to use a friend's TomTom. I liked it quite a bit and might have considered buying one but there were too many questions online about their reliability. I should say that the most I was willing to spend was $300.

I bought a nice little Magellan Maestro 3225 from a well-known wholesale club. After three days with that unit I decided to return it. Great unit but not enough detail in the map display at all for my needs. I researched the internet very thoroughly and decided on a Mio C520 from Circuit City. The Mio was an absolute nightmare, I returned it the next day. I won't even go in to the problems I had with the Mio but trust me it's no good.

Finally I decided on Garmin (I knew at the beginning I should have). The Nuvi 260 met all my needs and was in my price range so I ordered it from my Circuit City. Got it today and I have to say I love it. It does absolutely everything well. Totally superb. I've been tinkering with it all night trying to challenge it the best way I know howand it just keeps right on impressing me. Great, great product. From Garmin what else would you expect?

I will say that the text-to-speech may have been a slight bit better with Magellan (fewer mispronounced words). But the Garmin makes up for it withthe fact that it ALWAYS says the name of the business (POI) you are routing to. And it ALWAYS tells you what side of the street your destination is on. Example, 'Drive ahead point two miles on Tapteal drive, arrive at Circuit City on your right.' Absolutely wonderful. The routing is far superior on the Garmin as well. The maps are more up-to-date. And the display map shows all the detail I need. I am 100% sold on Garmin!

Pick up any one of their products and you will be amazed. Magellan comes close but Garmin has the edge! And please, please.... do NOT waste your money on Mio.

This garmin is a very GPS

It is very nice, but the writer is correct with regards to points of interest(POI). The TomTom gives you more options. One other plus is the over the speed limit warning that you can find on the basic TomTom, that's a great feature also. I will still givethe edge to the Garmin.
